Grace-Based Decisions
In the blog post Grace-Based Decisions (Judgments), the letter to Philemon is used as a lens for understanding how believers can make decisions rooted in the grace of Christ rather than willpower or flesh. Rather than presenting doctrine abstractly, the letter shows it at work in a real situation — where Philemon must decide how to receive his runaway servant Onesimus, now a fellow believer. Drawing on Romans 8 and 12, Philippians 1, and 1 Corinthians 6 and 10, the post outlines a practical pattern: acknowledge the spiritual resources already present in Christ, allow the mind to be renewed through the Word, make real judgments in everyday relationships and conflicts, and act willingly out of love rather than mere obligation. The post challenges believers to move beyond simply asking "Is this allowed?" toward asking what is most edifying, excellent, and glorifying to God — a higher standard that reflects not just correct behavior, but a heart genuinely shaped by grace.
