Romans Course | Lesson 1

Course Teacher | Josh Strelecki

Lesson 1 Overview
Lesson 1 introduces the Epistle to the Romans by exploring its background, audience, and purpose. The Apostle Paul wrote to believers in Rome to preach the gospel of Christ—not only as the message that saves sinners but also as the power of God that establishes and strengthens saints. This lesson traces Paul’s personal relationship with the Roman believers, his desire and hindrance to visit them, the reason he wrote instead, and the way the letter provides a foundation for the believer’s faith and growth. The lesson closes with Paul’s four-fold outline of Romans, showing how the gospel of Jesus Christ is the foundation for justification, sanctification, dispensational understanding, and the Christian walk.

Romans Course | Lesson 2

Course Teacher | Josh Strelecki

Lesson 2 Overview
Lesson 2 of the Romans Course builds on the introductory background of Paul’s letter and turns to the opening doctrinal themes of Romans 1–2. The lesson explains Paul’s separation unto “the gospel of God,” his apostleship given by the risen Lord Jesus Christ, and the unity between the gospel of God and the gospel of Christ. Paul is shown as uniquely called to make known the full manifestation of what had been witnessed by the prophets—the good news concerning God’s Son, Jesus Christ, made of the seed of David according to the flesh and declared to be the Son of God with power by the resurrection. The apostle’s ministry to the Gentiles emphasizes “the obedience of faith” among all nations, testifying to Christ’s authority, power, and righteousness. The lesson then transitions to the heart of Paul’s message: the gospel of Christ as “the power of God unto salvation,” revealing God’s righteousness in contrast to human unrighteousness and the wrath of God revealed from heaven. By tracing humanity’s historical and continual departure from God—from creation through the distinction of Jew and Gentile—Paul establishes the universal guilt of mankind and the necessity of the righteousness of God revealed in Christ, preparing students for the next lesson on the wrath of God and man’s need for redemption.

Romans Course | Lesson 3

Course Teacher | Josh Strelecki

Lesson 3 Overview
Lesson 3 of the Romans Course examines the wrath of God and the universal guilt of mankind before Him. Building on Paul’s earlier argument about humanity’s historical departure from God, this lesson traces the unfolding of human unrighteousness from creation onward. Paul reveals how ungodliness begins in vain imaginations and a refusal to glorify God, leading to idolatry, impurity, and moral corruption. As man rejects the Creator and exalts the creature, God “gives them up” to uncleanness, vile affections, and a reprobate mind, showing the depth of man’s fall. Paul then exposes the hypocrisy of both Gentiles and Jews—each equally inexcusable under God’s righteous judgment. The lesson outlines key truths about God’s judgment: it is according to truth, according to deeds, without respect of persons, and executed by Jesus Christ. Through the law, Paul demonstrates that all—Jew and Gentile alike—are guilty, their mouths stopped, and their sin fully known before God. The conclusion highlights that all are under sin, unrighteous, and deserving of God’s wrath, setting the stage for the next lesson’s focus on the revelation of God’s righteousness and the good news of justification by faith.
