Josh Strelecki | Romans Course | Lesson 1

Lesson 1 Overview
Lesson 1 introduces the Epistle to the Romans by exploring its background, audience, and purpose. The Apostle Paul wrote to believers in Rome to preach the gospel of Christ—not only as the message that saves sinners but also as the power of God that establishes and strengthens saints. This lesson traces Paul’s personal relationship with the Roman believers, his desire and hindrance to visit them, the reason he wrote instead, and the way the letter provides a foundation for the believer’s faith and growth. The lesson closes with Paul’s four-fold outline of Romans, showing how the gospel of Jesus Christ is the foundation for justification, sanctification, dispensational understanding, and the Christian walk.
Romans Course Overview
The Romans Course as a structured 14-lesson study designed to explore the foundations of the Christian faith through the Apostle Paul’s epistle to the Romans. The instructor explains that Romans forms the doctrinal foundation of Scripture—revealing God’s righteousness, the gospel of grace, and the believer’s new identity in Christ. The course aims to help students understand the flow of the epistle, the doctrine of justification by faith, the redemptive work of Christ, the believer’s walk under grace rather than law, the Spirit’s leading, and the will of God in daily life. Students are encouraged to diligently read and reread Romans, becoming familiar with Paul’s language and logic, and to follow the syllabus’ assigned passages for each lesson. This introduction closes with an exhortation to begin the journey with a heart ready to grow in understanding and faith as they enter Lesson One.
